God looked kindly upon Stella Lipschitz, because of the hats she chose. God simply adored them. So quaint in an age where most people didn’t even know there was such a word God thought, as He does on occasion. And so God decided to bestow upon Stella a grand gift: The love of her life! He also decided, which by the way is something God does with admirable professionalism - it was going to be the happiest, most loving relationship of the century. Yes, Stella would become ridiculously, for ever happy! And God had wisely chosen, as God tends to do, the good hearted soon to be ice cream tycoon, Irving Schlitz, as her fiancé.
Eventually they would build the famous "Schlitz & Lipschitz ice cream company inc". A detail suggested by Gabriel. God nodding "ok" to that then went on commanding the angels:
"Make them fall in love at precisely 12.24 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in May!"
And because the angels always took God seriously, well apart from the time he asked Abraham to sacrifice his son - come on, really!? And then there was the incident of Him telling his only son to climb up on the cross.. Certainly a tad bit over the top at least! So Gabriel thought! But I digress, back to the story of the soon to be love of the century: "Stella and Irving" or "Lipschitz and Schlitz"! There were even plans to let someone write an Opera about their grand life, maybe a new A.L. Webber! Again this suggested by Gabriel and God promised, now feeling slightly irritated, to give it some thought.
Alas, unfortunately it all went a bit south for God, Stella and Irving that day. Albeit God was the only one to notice, well and Gabriel of course, who always was a bit of a "pain in the ass know it all", whom God would have loved to send straight to hell, had he not already promised Lucifer not to. For you see, God was a deity of his word!
What happened in short, was that Steve Jobs marvellous invention, also of course one of Gods gifts, got in the way. As Stella and Irving where to meet, passing each other, at precisely 12.24 on a lovely Sunday afternoon, Stella suddenly looked down to tweet at her best friend Rita Myerson, regarding her shoes. She felt a bit uncertain as to wether she should continue wearing them or not and wanted Ritas opinion. So as she looked down to tweet, Irving didn't see her, only the brim of her hat:
"Such a nice, wonderful brim!"
Thought Irving in passing her. And Stella saw nothing but her shoes, giving them a sad emoji, just to emphasise her doubt, in her tweeting Rita.
So children, Gods gifts to man, can at times get in His way, how else do you think Trump got elected?
And Stella? Well, she decided to keep the shoes, just for the season, mind you. And Gabriel well, he was a bit disappointed as he loved ice cream very much.
And God... Oh, well, He works in mysterious ways.
